Shopping for your wedding gown can be the most fun and the most stressful part of the whole New Orleans wedding planning process. Here are a few tips to help you on your quest to find “The One”:

1. Start early. If you order a gown, it may take nearly a year for it to come in. Even if you just need alterations, the seamstress may need a few months to complete them. Start shopping ASAP.

2. Bring help. Get your girlfriends, your mom, your aunts, whoever you trust to give you an honest opinion and take them shopping with you.

3. Don’t discriminate. Just because you don’t like how it looks on the hanger doesn’t mean it won’t look fabulous on you. Try on everything, even if you don’t want to. “The One” just might surprise you.

4. Consider location. A church, banquet hall, a meadow or the beach- these all call for very different styles of wedding gowns. Keep your venue in mind while shopping for the perfect wedding dress.

5. You’ll know. When you see it, you know it. At this point, stop shopping and buy it. If the day is drawing near and your still haven’t found the perfect dress, you need to go with the next best one. “The One” may only exist in your head and unless you’re a fashion designer, well you have to go with what you’ve got.

Shopping for the perfect wedding dress will be less stressful if you keep these 5 tips in mind.
